Leadership Opportunites
Student Ambassadors
This program is an opportunity to serve in a leadership role with other students and within the Longview community as a representative of Discovery High School. All students who are passing all classes, have solid attendance and have no discipline issues are encouraged to apply to be Student Ambassadors. Student Ambassadors will serve as mentors to other students, provide tours to new students and participate in leadership, school and community events. Benefits of participation in Student Ambassadors include:
- Developing leadership skills to prepare for future work opportunities
- Participate in activities that can be included on your resume and in job and scholarship applications
- Participation in evening activities or events outside of the school day can earn service to school points toward graduation requirements.
Reading Buddies
Students in this program will work with elementary students at Olympic Elementary to assist teachers in helping students develop reading skills. Discovery High School students in this program will be assigned a student to be their “Reading Buddy”. Students will meet with elementary students to read to them, to have elementary students read to them and to help students gain confidence in their reading skills. On Track Reading Buddies will write and design a story book for their Reading Buddy and will be eligible to earn partial English credit for active participation in the program. Benefits of participation in Reading Buddies include:

Garden Buddies
Garden Buddy students at Discovery High School will work with elementary students at Olympic Elementary to provide leadership within the school garden program. Students in the Horticulture classes at Discovery High School will partner with students to increase their understanding of the school gardens and will have the opportunity to work with students at community and evening events with students at Olympic Elementary. Benefits of participation in Garden Buddies include:
- Developing leadership and mentoring skills.

- Gain skills that can be used on a job or scholarship application.
