Discovery High School Chromebook Distribution.

Good morning –
Longview Schools has been distributing Chromebooks across the district to families that need devices. Because our school covers the whole city, we are handling it ourselves.

I will be at Discovery on Thursday, April 2nd, 10:00 – 12:00 to distribute Chromebooks. You know we are a small school. Please respect these rules:

*   One CB per family. If a younger sibling already got one, please call it good. We don’t have enough to go around.

*   One person (preferably student) in the building at one time. Enter in front, exit out the side.

*   Please wear a mask if you have one.
Sorry, we don’t have any spare hotspots at this time.

If you cannot make it on Thursday, there will be another pickup date before we start back with instruction on April 15th.

Stay safe.

SBA Testing information March 2020

February 6, 2020

Dear DHS Families:
During the month of March, Discovery High School will be hosting the Smarter Balance Assessments (SBA) in three content areas, Science, English-Language Arts (ELA) and Math:
Science – Tuesday, March 3rd (11th graders only)
ELA – Tuesday, March 10th and Thursday, March 12th – Must test both days 10th & 11th graders who have NOT passed it)
Math – Tuesday, March 24th and Thursday, March 26th – Must test both days 10th and 11th graders who have not passed it)
We will begin testing in Period 5, at 12:30pm for our Science test and 2nd period, at 9am for our ELA and Math exams. It is essential that our testers arrive ready to test. Students will be excused from their regular classes to allow focus on testing.
The spring test rosters include 10th graders—who will take the tests for the first (and, hopefully, last) time—and our 11th and 12th grade students who’ve yet to succeed. Students must take these assessments to qualify for high school graduation.
We have been preparing for this endeavor all year, across content areas. We continue to practice in the test platform. Additional practice can be found online: http://www.k12.wa.us/assessment/StateTesting/TestQuestions/Testquestions.aspx We encourage parents to get familiar with the format.
We expect this group to perform well on these assessments. However, any student who does not pass this round should have another chance in the coming year. We encourage students to get these milestones achieved so they may focus on course completion—high school graduation is our priority. Note that many students who pass these assessments are eligible to receive course credit.
If you have questions or concerns, please call our office at 360-414-2926.
Thank you for your support.
